To answer those questions we have to take a closer look to magic itself. The definition of magic is as follows: "To change a situation in accordance with one's will." Keep that in mind while going through this blog.
Magic can be divided into 2 'sections'. The first would be lesser magic and the second would be greater magic.
Lesser or manipulative magic: This is the field of the kind of magic where the magician is in close vicinity of the victim (or goal as it is also called among witches and warlocks). The tools being used are often language and imagery. An example of lesser magic being used is verbal intimidation or extreme flattering. A person subjected to lesser magic may, at one point, find him/her self realizing that they have changed their mind about something they would never ever thought they would because they had this rock solid opinion/ moral principles about. Lesser magic also includes the art of seduction. A magician who understands (and values) lesser magic can take this discipline to an extreme level.
Greater or ceremonial magic: This is the realm of rituals. Any ritual. The phrase "ceremonial magic" is actually incorrect since ceremony is NOT a part of magic, (not the active-making-it-work part anyway) ritual is! Ritual is to attain whereas ceremony is to sustain. So what does a ritual do and how does it make magic work? That has to do with the conjuring of will. Creating a force that could be directed to a recipient. To say it bluntly. The magician does not have to be in close vicinity of the victim. For instance, a Satanic warlock (In this case the Church of Satan kinda guy or gal) can within the confines of his ritual chamber conjure enough force through will (directed at the goal) to actually influence someone's behavior/mind 1000's of miles away. The warlock or witch can use lots of trappings, symbols, names, anything that helps him/her boost their will. So, basically greater magic are all the ritualized workings. Satanism, Voodoo, Santeria, Winti, Paganism, Wicca, you name it falls in this category.
An unsuspecting victim might have the following 'symptoms': Nightmares, insomnia, abhorrent behavior, losing friends, can't concentrate well or even plain insanity. To balance the negative charge in this post i must say that it also works for the benefit of someone. ( And with someone i mean a victim/goal).
I'll leave it here. Read between the lines.Magic is neutral. There is no such thing as White and Black magic. It's all about intent! Take a hammer, you can choose to build a house for someone with that or you can choose to kill someone with that. Intent, always.
Thanks for the great conversation. Illuminatus!
